Diesel 205 - Can I Turbo It?

Recommended Posts

ORB

I have a 205 1.8 N/A derv style in my fleet, she is a slice slow. . . .

Is it Possible (easy) to turbo it using parts from the scrappers?

Any hints tips and info would be cool.

Ta.

you can use the parts of the turbodiesel-engine.

anyhow, the bearings of the conrod are better types on the turbo, you should replace them to keep the engine reliable for longer time.

the other thing is the compression ratio of the engine. someone else maybe can answer that better.

the compression ratio is determined by 3 components: pistons/conrods, headshape, headgasket

if the compression ratio of the turbo and the normal one are similar, there should not be any problem.

Could you not bung a 306 dturbo engine in? The turbo is tuneable and one of the fuel pumps is the better of the two. You can use mercedes sprinter van injectors (bit smokey though) and whack the pump/turbo right up.

You'll have a sh!t eating grin on your face for weeks :lol

A few years ago I converted a 306 diesel to a turbo diesel. It was a ballache and I wouldn't do it again.

It's probably easier to swap the whole engine for a turbo engine -either the 1.8 TD from a 205, or 1.9 TD from a 405/306/etc, rather than trying to convert what you have. There are bound to be lots of small parts that need swapping over, and unless you buy a complete donor car it could work out to be lots of trips back and forth to the scrappy for a single bracket or a couple of bolts.

i checked the tech manuals from 306, basically the same engine.

D = 23 : 1

TD = 21.8 : 1

should be no problem to convert a diesel to turbo without changing internals.

I believe that the cylinder heads are different aren't they where the manifolds bolt on? and the shape of the ports are different between the two also.

I would just fit a 306/xantia/405 1.9 TD unit in it with a bosch pump,wind the fuelling/turbo up and enjoy the results ! (Xantia unit has a nice inlet manifold with a central intake on it ideal for fmic set up)

:)

totally agreed on last reply.

This is what I am doing at the moment (similar to yours)

1.8 diesel Inca N reg

1.9 td from my 405 (mot just run out)

keeping the na gearbox as it's suppose to go faster (someone said)

gti/td subframe

You'll be surprised how easy is to do that.

Let us know what oyu have done.

I am in the middle of building a 2.0L HDI engine out of a citroen Xsara to go in my 205 Xud7T just to give you more options, here is the project thread if you fancy a butchers ;)http://www.tdocuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=4991
