Mind Breaking Idle

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently changed my battery terminals with a brand new one. I dont know if it is really related to that but when I open the lights the idling go down and starts to jump from 700rpm to 1000 rpm

My idle is 1000 rpm on normal time and wtihout any jumping on idle but when I turn on the lights it starts again jumping.

I raised my idle to see if it is going to solve it and raised my idle to 1100 and again when I turn the lights on it starts to rev 700 and jumps.

I checked the air leaks, but I think this is an electrical problem. Any ideas to release my head :)

Standard 205 feature. There is no way for the idle system to admit more air to the engine to stabilise the idle speed when more load is placed on the alternator from having the lights on, hence the revs drop.

Increasing the alternator capacity??? Can it be usefull

No. It will still do it. Set the hot idle to a steady 900rpm with all the lights, heater, heated rear screen switched on, thats as good as you will get it.

Yes but then when you close all of the power consumers the revs go up to 1200 rpm, Is there a cure for that

yep, convert to the engine management of the xu10j2, they have variable, ecu controlled idling. or use a megasquirt.

bosch motronic mp3.1 from citroen xm and peugeot 605 should be painless because you can use nearly all old parts.

magnetti marelli is more complicated, you have to adapt the throttle body.

anyway, its not normal that the idle rpm drop to 700 when turning on the lights and being at 1000 normally!

maybe your alternator is defect, try measuring the voltage and look is its stable.

why was your old battery dead?

My aternator charges over 13 V like 13.6 if I am not wrong, I will check it again.

My old battery died because I forgot to close the alarm and till morning it was dead. My new battery is 6 months old and it has good charge level. I frequently use my pug.

Changing to a better ECU system is of course the best solution but citroen XM or 605 is rare then 205s in Turkey.

If I was in UK, I will go for MI16 engine. But here it is also expensive liki 800 pounds.

So as I understand there is no cure for that idling problem. Set it to 900 stady with all loads and let is idle at 1200 in normal time. B)

try Motronic MP3.1, though its like Jetronic and cannot alter the air going into the engine, it does have a higher degree of control over the engines idle speed.
