Negative Camber Front Hubs.

Recommended Posts

I understand pts negative camber front hubs are somewhat rare and expensive.

Is there anywhere that can machine standard front hubs to give any amount of negative camber?

(Is this even possible?)

It is possible yes, it's the damper aperture of the hub carrier that can be machined, although i'm not sure the PTS ones were the same, i would've thought they were specially made to carry the hub to give the camber.

Am i right in saying that Skip Browns road speed suspension conversion uses negative camber on all 4 wheels, iam sure they do

and maybe able to help.

I only thought SBC used neg camber on the rear.....

nope woodsy is right, SBC used 'special' hub carriers to gain extra neg camber at the front. i've got a set knocking about. i'm hard pushed to see where the extra camber comes from, but it's definately there.

AFAIK, they machine the part of the hub carrier where the damper is held so that the hub sits slightly more angled, subsequently giving the camber.

Yep, that's correct <_<

A sleeve is added inside the carrier to get the diameter back down to standard. I got a set for my tarmac rally car and the difference is noticeable!!

How much extra camber do they give over a standard hub then?

If only they were like the ones on my 172 where the strut bolts on to the side so you can either just slot the top hole yourself or spend £40 on eccentric bolts and get upto -3 ve depending on how much you turn them

yeah, but use them hard on track or rough rallying, and they move <_<

fit 405 hubs, wishbones and adapted shafts to a 309 for neg camber. That is what Pug 309 did on his errr........ Peugeot 309!!

Does anyone have any pictures of the 309 set up mentioned or even of the skip brown hubs please?

Or just buy some decent suspension and some eccentric top mounts...

Mine give 1.5 degrees :)

Mine give 1.5 degrees

Thanks.

Is that 1.5 degrees when measured, or 1.5 degrees on top of the standard hub camber (which is around 0.5 degrees IIRC)?

Would be useful things to have, as you would have static camber 'in stock', so could use eccentric top mounts to dial in alot more caster.

You can go further than the ones sam has. They came from casnell's rally car i think, and they were the one of the first ones done by a local guy. He now has a jig sorted, and does them really cheaply. A mate of mine is running 2 or 3 degrees - he can't remember exactly how much, as i asked him a few weeks back.

I'm sure someone with some machining skills could sort it without much trouble at all

offset bored sleeve and a smaller diameter strut casing I would think.

Nope, twin tube front dampers with the bottom of the outer tube offset and the cap rewelded to keep the inner tube aligned.
