Weird Idle And Stalling

Recommended Posts

swordfish210

Hi, i've got a standard 2.0 Mi16 with the plastic, ACAV operated inlet manifold, and recently it's been idiling really weirdly. It hunts at idle as if there is an air leak but i have been unable to detect one and it also stalls randomly even when warm. Anyone have any ideas of what might be causing this, i was thinking the idle control valve?

Anyone? I'd love to get this sorted whilst the car is in bits.

check that the ports on the front of the inlet manifold are all connected/bunged as appropriate, and that the map sensor pipe is connected properly.

if that's all ok then its probably the ICV.

One other thing i was going to mention is that the throttle is quite slow to respond. If i blip the throttle (as you would do when heel-toe braking) either nothing happens or it responds really slowly. Is this normal for the 2.0 Mi's or am i just used to my bike-carb'd 205

I remember the throttle response on my 306 S16 (same engine) was lousy with what seemed like a good half-second delay, so either they've both got the same fault, or it's "normal" I'd say

As Merion said, both are equally as likely

My ZX 16v (same engine) has the same problem, damn annoying and i'm sure it's not supposed to be like that, but haven't had the time to investigate properly yet. My other 2.0l Mi in my pug has instant throttle respose but that it running 1.9 loom.

Me and James noticed that too and when we were blipping the throttle in the engine bay it sounded like there was an air leak somewhere. My 1.9 Mi16 does this too. Bloody annoying. I remember when he had a 106 Xsi and the throttle response was like lightening in that.
