Oil Leak From Dipstick

Hi,

I have an oil leak from the base of the dipstick, where it goes into the block.

 

Should there be an O-ring or anything in there to prevent oil seepage?

 

Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

 

I searched on "dipstick", but it returned no results.

not supposed to be an o ring, but you could put one there

 

although, it'd probably be easier to smear some silicone around it, as to fit an o ring you'd need to remove the manifold

its just a push fit, no seals or anything.

 

if it was leaking I would remove the securing bolt, lift it up, smear sealant on it and push it back down.

 

 

they're usually a bloody tight fit though.

Thanks for the replies. I can lift it up about an inch, but it won't come right out and I'm not going to force it.

 

OK, I'll get some silicon sealant and try that this afternoon.
