Have just discovered that the Mi16 QEP re-angling plate clears the bulkhead but doesn't allow you to just bolt the standard 8v exhaust up. Found out the hard way, after much trial and error fitting and finding it blowing just a bit

;)

What's the best way around this? Am open to all suggestions, if someone has a 4-2-1 manifold they want rid of, PM me with a price, or will cutting and welding the standard Mi16 exhaust do the trick?

What mods did you do? Did you hack off the flange and re-weld? Bend it? Cut a few inches out of the exhaust?

I dropped a mi into my 309 in 1992. I fitted the engine then cut the flange off my mi downpipe, then welded segments of 3 inch pipe iirc onto that flange in a shpae and form that cleared the bulk head--hammer came out once or twice but it made good power and lasted.

Bought a longmans 4 2 1 manifold recently and it seems to fit well--no power run yet though.

There is the info around you just need to search harder!

The basic idea is to cut the downpipe at the collector weld, then remove around 30mm or so from the downpipe, then re-weld the collector on at the correct angle you need. Bit of a faff to perfect it but it works.

Only downside.... I weld like a very special person

I just know this is going to end badly, where I burn though the middle section in a spectacular fashion, so I just wanted to be absolutely sure before I committed myself to doing this ;)

I just shattered my (almost new) downpipe:

Trying to get the damn thing apart to weld it shorter. Is there any scrapyard special that I can salvage a similar exhaust from in order to cut off the 'cup' from the exhaust?

Peace,

iirc almost any pug flange will fit the mi flange.

Get one--chop it off existing manifold, segment some new pieces, tack in place, re fit, check angles, remove, part weld, check angels again and on and on and on..

Or buy a manifold to suit?
