Mi16 Crank Bolt

Recommended Posts

sport1901966

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone might be able to offer me some advice. I'm trying to remove the crank from a D6C mi16 engine and it's free bar the plate at the cam pulley end. It appears I need to take of the crank bolt to then slide off the timing belt sprocket which will in turn allow me to slide off the plate to then lift the crank out, am I correct in this?

The problem being I can't get the bolt out for love nor money, using a metre long breaker bar all I do is keep shattering sockets, I'm locking the crank by putting a wooden mallet handle between the side of the block and crank counter weight.

I'm going to get an impact socket but I don't wanna do damage to , does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

never seen a normal socket break when trying to undo a crank pulley bolt, but yes an impact socket should be sturdier.

Yea it's rediculous I can't believe how tight it is, someone suggested it could be glued in as a precaution against it coming loose and loosing friction with the oil pump sprocket.

Managed to split 3 sockets so will have topick an impact one up from halfords. I keep questioning whether it's reverse threaded or something silly!

Thanks

nope its a normal lefty loosely impact guns really aren't that powerful use a 6 sided socket as these grip better and then a bar 3 foot long one bloke holds the engine another applies force at the end of said bar. if 3 foot isn't long enough try 6...... its will eventually move!

Lock the flywheel by making a plate (3mm mild steel) that has several teeth and engages the ring gear teeth. Use the hole shown in this diagram, along with the dowel, to stop the plate from rotating.

Definitely buy a quality 6 point socket.
