Need Help With Custom Piston/forge

Recommended Posts

Bally

My current motor is a XU7j4P block with the 8valve 1905 crank and connecting rods and the gti6 shaped head from the 2.0 406 , so I need pistons that float on the gudgeon pin. My first try was using Mi16 piston and machine out the underside to give space for the con rod to float. One of these broke in the area I machined. My next try were the 405 8 valve flat top pistons and put in the valve pockets for the 16 valve.

I want to order a set of pistons forged to run some higher compression and for reliability also. What do I order them for, who can do them. My belief is that the closest std piston to meet all of my requirement are the xu7j4p piston but I believe they run a low compression cause the piston does not come flush with the top of the liner.

Any suggestions, I need to have them as soon as possible.

can you not deck the block and have liners machined to suit?

it's about 5mm difference in deck height from memory with the XU7-XU9 pistons

how about some Mi16 rods + pistons?

Want to retain the 8 vlve rods for the peace of mind of an old post I saw on here which says they help with surge issues by not allowing the oil to easily bypass on the crank journal.

Is this just a myth cause if it is I can go to Mi16 rods and easily get wossner forged pistons.

Your thoughts please.

Use off the shelf forged hi-comp Mi16 pistons, and get custom length h-beam conrods?

So I should get the rods custom made with a smaller (small end) (gudeon pin area) to allow them to float at the piston?

Speak to Matt at QEP. He's sure to know exactly what you need. He's really very helpful, and good at what he does
