Icv Compatibility Gti6

Recommended Posts

Paul_13

I've just recieved a GTI6 ICV through the post for my conversion, only problem is that it doesn't have the breather pipe coming out of it like I expected.

Will this still run ok? It's 136t setup if that's of any use

Thanks in advance :)

That's the correct motor yes. You will need the mount/breather pipe to connect it obviously. Do you have one of these?

ICV, Idle control valve.

You will need this for a VTS engine.

I don't have the mount or breather pipe. Another bit that did not get supplied with my engine from a forum member on 306gti6 :)

Do you have one I can buy ASAP?

if you mean the pipe coming from the black ICV housing to the air box, it's not essential but it means the car will be sucking on fresh unfiltered air. I have a '6 manifold with a K&N directly fitted to the throttle body, so don't have anywhere for the breather to go, instead I just used a mini filter directly fitted to the ICV housing.

I get you mean 24seven, but its the actually mount that the ICV goes onto before it attaches to the I/Mani

When you get the mount paul, just stick a suitable hose on and a mini filterif you don't have the original pipework...If yo knew that already, my bad :P

ahh I gotcha. when I fitted my '6 manifold it didn't have this mount. you can't run without it basically as that's where the air feed to the ICV is, and where the plug the valve itself operates in.

If you didnt have the mount would it not breath/idle properly?

I made the mistake of not realising I didn't have it and bolted the ICV straight to the manifold. it wouldn't idle at all, and was VERY down on power. After taking it apart the suction from the engine caused the ICV to disintegrate and a couple of bits went through the manifold. Fortunately the engine only ran up the road and back, as a couple of parts were sat against one of the valve stems in one of the inlet ports, but no damage was done and no issues have surfaced in the 15k since it happened.

But yeah, basically you need that mount, and I'd recommend a mini filter to put straight on the end of it.

Some pictures of it done would help me out, then il know exactly which bit to sort out, when my conversion starts.

All these little bits and bobs that needs sorting is going to be the most difficult bit of my conversion when iv never

done one before.

Cheers

I'll get some pics for you on the weekend, for you Surgie. I'll put them on my build thread.

You might be lucky and your inlet manifold will come with it all attached.
