What's Wrong With The 205?

Recommended Posts

Luca

Hey fellas - I've recently (over the last 48 hours) developed a problem with the 205.

As the car gets hot sitting in traffic, hot meaning the thermo fans are on and the oil temp is high, the car will not go into gear properly. Go into gear properly is defined as the gates into the gears are very tight.

What could be causign this?

What is the solution?

I had a similar problem about a year ago, wouldnt select low gears when hot

Tried replacing the gearbox oil but to no avail

Lived with it for a couple more weeks until i couldnt bear it any longer, dropped the gearbox off and found a seriously fubared release bearing, replaced the clutch at the same time, been great ever since

the gearbox oil was topped up recently as the drive shaft was not put in property and was leaking like a bitch!

I found my pressure plate was knackered, if I bought the clutch up slightly it went into gear!?

Is the gear lever difficult just as it goes into gear or is it bad around neutral too? If the latter check the gear linkage pivot point on the subframe is well greased, the heat from the exhaust can make these tighten up when warm.

Luca, my sisters si is like this too. It always has been though, and hasn't gotten worse. I've never really given it too much thought.

Check the clutch adjustment though. Maybe it would be worth bringing it up a bit. If they are dragging it gets hard to select gears. I think we gave them a decent workout on sunday, but it shouldn't have been too hard on clutches.

Check that the engine to gearbox bolts are tight, if these are loose when you push the clutch it will solve the engine and box apart before it releases the clutch.
