Tranx Diff

Can someone tell me if TransX diffs make noises on full-lock?

 

Mine makes this very faint, warbly sound on full lock when moving from a standstill. You can feel the diff snatch when turning so appears to be doing what its meant to.

 

I've recently replaced the hubs, wheel bearings and shafts so all running gear bar the gearbox is new. The diff has seen little action, one trip to Germany and a nailing round the Nurburgring and thats about it.

 

Do they usually take a while to shut up then?

Mines bloody loud, has been since i fitted it to the box, especially at low/parking speeds. Noise dissappears as soon as I get on the power. It just sounds like the plates grabbing to me.

It's pretty normal, especially for plate type diffs.

Are you all using diff oil or gearbox oil?

yep they snatch a bit at full lock/low speeds

 

 

run std box oil, not posh diff oil as the synrcos will die otherwise, and tie diff's don't mind it

Mine clanks a little bit as others have said, its really not that bad at all though. As James says above, the correct gearbox oil is needed as this is the right viscosity for the clearances on the synchro baulk rings in the gearbox.

Yeah i too always use the standard gearbox oil. The gearbox certainly wasnt designed for using 'special' diff oil, but the diff certainly was designed to cope with the standard gearbox oil, if you get me?

yeah kaaz supply thick diff oil which i have been using in my zf diff box for 5 years now...its compleatly silent and i have never had any gearbox problems
