205 Gti 1.9 1987 - Squeaky Rear Suspension

Recommended Posts

Hi, my stock rear suspension (115k miles) has recently developed a hideous sqeaking noise on both sides when going over the slightest of bumps. :) It seems to be coming from the joint where the trailing/radius arm meets the tube. Questions:

1. What would cause this? Has a bearing dried out with age?

2. What are my options to get rid of the noise?

3. Tell me I'm mad but a thought I had was to drill and tap threads in strategic places, attach bleed nipples and pump a load of grease in. Is this possible? Where would I drill?!

4. If I need to replace certain parts with re-built/conditioned ones, who is a good source of such parts (pref in the south east)?

Thanks in anticipation. :)

Adam

Your rear beam will most likely be on its last legs, this affects nearly every 205 GTI at some stage. There are some good articles on the main 205GTIdrivers site to get you started, also there are lots of threads on here with pictures of beams in various stages of dismantling.

Regarding pumping grease in, if it is making a noise then it is 99% past that and will need stripping and replacement parts to sort it out.
