406 Btcc Cylinder Head?

Recommended Posts

Guest Tom7

I am looking to buy another 205 after selling a 1.6 gti I was planning on putting an mi16 in, this time with a mi16 conversion already done. I have seen a car I am interested in for sale on pistonheads. In the advert it says the car has a longman head and cams, and the previous owner has told the current owner the cylinder head is off a 406 btcc car. I have spoke to the current owner and he says he dosent know what work has been done to the head. So I was wondering if anybody knows the work done to these heads? I am slightly worried that due to it being built for a racing car it won't like doing the sort of road miles i'd like to do in the car? So does anybody know valve sizes? If the strength of the valve seats is effected? Or anything else that may cause a problem on a road car?

Thanks

Tom

Baz

Simple answer, it's b*lls*it. Pour quoi? Because they didn't use the Mi engine in the 406 for starters, and it'd be stamped with some kind of code etc if it had been anywhere near someone like Richard Longman.

The car is also for sale on here. The power claim is spurious.

In addition to Baz's beautiful reply, my understanding IF this was true, is that components dedicated to motorsport will be both designed to very tight tolerances and expected to be worked on/replaced/checked far more often than comfortable or possible with a road car. Could be wrong; probably often am.

Miles

That old one, A mate said it had XXXX when I bought it meaning it's standard, A BTCC head would be worth allot of money and should see the wrong side of 300bhp

Thanks for your advice people! I was actually hoping it wouldn't be a btcc head as I have been lead to it wouldn't last very long on a road car if it was and I cant see the cam's would be very practical as a road car either.

erm...they DID use the Mi engine in the 406 BTCC!

It sat straight up instead of under a 30 degree angle and also sat much lower in the enginebay (possible due to dry sump)

I would have thought they could only use engines originally available in the car and the 406 didnt use XU9's? I could be speaking rubbish heh. I also recall back in the 405 days at least, they werent allowed dry sumps and ran accusumps etc

Are we talking about the regular 406 super tourer, or the short lived 406 coupe from when the new rules were introduced?

True. They omitted this by entering with the XU7J4 engine into the 2 litre class. Basically replacing liners & pistons from the XU7 with those from an Mi16. Head to be used was already free anyway.

They did the same with the later WRC cars. Enter with the XU7J4 engine and in fact use an Mi16.

One more pic for DrSarty :D

LOL at the 'flywheel' :o

I know where there's a BTCC Longman lump for sale.... later gti6-style head type, dyno'd at 285 apparently. Was almost mine until the missus threw a wobbler :D

I meant as we know it as fitted to the 405/BX/205 etc though, it was pretty far removed as you say otherwise!
