James_R 3 Posted June 12, 2009 On a Gti I broke for parts a while ago I removed the Gti spoiler just to see how much it weighed, and it was very heavy. My question is, on the Gti does it offer anything of benifit aero wise or is it just for looks (i.e can I bin it with no untoward effects on the car at speed) Thanks for any input James
Cameron 16 Posted June 12, 2009 All it does is help keep the rear screen clear at speed, and it doesn't do a very good job of that. You won't find any difference without it. And yes, they are very heavy! I was planning on making a GRP one.
tom_m 0 Posted June 12, 2009 And yes, they are very heavy! I was planning on making a GRP one. Carbon one... slightly larger than OE? sign me up
Cameron 16 Posted June 12, 2009 Got to make the doors first! But yeah, I may well make something a little larger than normal. I need to get some of that funny foam stuff that you can sand into shapes.

Cameron 16 Posted June 12, 2009 A long time, ask Mickie. Yes, just been polishing the second one and put my hand down on one of my windscreen removal tool bits. Sodding thing went pretty much straight through so I've had to tend to that instead.
swordfish210 20 Posted June 13, 2009 Looking at the rear spoiler i would go as far to say that it actually makes the aerodynamics of the car worse. It looks like it is just moving the seperation point of the air further away from the rear of the car, causing more drag.
