Need My Timing Etc. Set Up - Where Near West London?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm going to give my 205 a good service soon, I've had the car about a month now and its due a bit of tlc.

I'm going to replace all the usual parts spark plugs, ht leads, rotor arm, distributor cap, oil and fuel filter, oil and I have a new air filter on its way.

Once I've done all of this I want to get the car set up properly. I'm pretty sure the timing is out and the car doesn't seem as nippy as I think it should.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get it done in London, preferably West London (Heathrow) but I'm not too fussed if I have to travel. Am I right in thinking that its best to get it up somewhere that has a rolling road or can any old garage do it?

Thanks

Anybody with a Haynes Workshop manual and a screwdriver + allen key can get it pretty damn close

I'm not scared of doing a bit of work myself but I haven't done timing before. I know you have to advance the timing until pinking under load then retard it until it runs ok and I assume at the same time you adjust the idle screw to get it around 900rpm. Is it just those 2 that need doing or is it a bit more involved than that?

I thought for the sake of £20 or whatever it cost to get it done properly it would bemoney well invested.
