I miss that car

I remember you posted some pics of it on the pgac forum in 2004 maybe... i was driving a 405 then, and it got me interested in 205s. Do you have any pictures of it from back then?

I should be able to find some, anything in particular? I don't want to take over the thread mind you. The car did run TBs so remotely related!

Yep tbh the noise is almost directly proportional to throttle load. The best sound is low rpm full throttle though by far.

Thanks. Yep that was mine, but that video was pre Sandy fettling! After he got his mitts on it - it was much much better. We fitted the newer bodies and gave it a map. Shame I never got it on the rollers, never felt the need to.

I miss that car :D

edit: Sandy was driving!

God that sounds good! It makes me want to get rid of my turbo engine and chuck in anything with t/b's!

You should be fine below 4k, constant or below. Its just when you press the pedal down to the floor at full chat you will hear it. I thought mine was going to be an issue so i bought a pipercross airbox with inline filter:

But i have longer trumpets (only takes up to 45mm trumpets) and i liked the induction noise so its sat in the box. Im fairly sure you will enjoy the noise with filter(s) though....

I'd do a before and after rolling road as I think that would loose you power due to the design.

I just remember some of it looking really clean, without the arches on some smallish white wheels. Those pics totally inspired me, so it would be good to see them again. What happened to it?

Thread Hijack...... I've got Sams old setup on my engine now, so I have a few more pics of the TB setup if that's what you are after ;)

In respect the OP's question, I too thought the TB's were a little loud.... Until the other day when I let a mate drive the car. From the outside at full bore acceleration, it sounds just :):D:wub:

Obviously, if it starts to exceed noise regs when I eventually get it on track, I'll have to think again about some sort of induction silencing.

well i now have my car up and running, it sounds fantastic, but it is quite loud lol.... il make some videos later, the exhaust i got of miles is quite quite, totaly drowned out by the noise of the TB`s currently it has no filters at all so im driving it verry little (only coverd 40 miles in it lol) and when my sausage filter turns up im going to see what its like then, and probably buy some form of air box at a later date, does anyone have any recomendations??

the car produced 102bhp an 9t ftlbs at 3500rpm on the rollers, i told the guy tuning it not to go higher than that till iv got some miles on the engine and ran it in a bit first, so nedles to say im rather chuffed with that :)

102 bhp at 3500 rpm? Or was that the torque at those revs?! Bit confused :(

I guess because he's only rev'd it to 3,500rpm, and clearly there's much more power to be had later on in the rev range.

He's getting 102bhp then, so will see more at 6,500rpm for example; may be much more. B)

Something's got me confused though, as this means he's getting 153lbft torque at 3,500rpm, which is quite a lot!!! Above Paul says torque at 3,500rpm "9t ftlbs" (???), so something doesn't add up.

Sorry bit of a typo 90 ft lbs, im hoping for around 210 bhp at about 7000 :)

EDIT: hang on iv just clicked, your right those figures dont ad up at all!! Il double check that iv read the graph correctly when i get home, though im sure i have!

I might pop back to the RR on sat to speak with the bloke as he may be pulling a bit of a fast one!

and yes, i only took it to the RR to get it maped to 3500 as i want to run the engine in before taking it up to 7000, and it ran quite poor on the base map that i initialy installed.

Ok, so it turns out iv been an utter d*ck and read both the torque and bhp from the same graph axis, the torque is about 100 and bhp about 70, its quite dificult to read the graph as both bhp and torque go up in incrimenrts of 30 and 20, as sson as i dig out my camera il get a pic up.

iv ordered some air filter socks for the moment and they have made i minute diference to volume, so if anyone can recomend an air box  iv seen a "silverstone" box and the pipercross one, does anyone have any experience of them??

Cheers

Paul.

I believe the forum collectively thinks socks are a bad idea.

I think you should man-up and enjoy the noise.

Seconded.

Mine has a single large foam filter (don't think thats the same as a sock?). It is monumentally loud inside sometimes but I love it

Not sure about my neighbours on the other hand. Mind you, I've heard it from outside and to me it sounds awesome!!

You should have heard my 7 with zx12r engine! The throttle bodies pointed up towards the FG bonnet which acted like a big resonator, revving up it sounded like nothing else, the induction drowned out the exhaust race can!
