Xsara Vts Box,tran X Diff

as above. with standard vts box on my 6 engine in 205 i had fitt the vts inner cup to the 205/309 shafts so the gearbox didnt leak. i believe this is due to the different diff in the box. so now im rebuilding the car and fitted a tran x to the box do i still need the modified driveshaft or a standard one????

its due to the box and not the diff...i just chop 10mm off the end off the 205 shaft

i originally thought the vts/gti-6 ones were longer then i checked and realised it was shorter so goes in less sealing box. made sense when had both infront of me other day :)

seriously??? would that work and be ok? save me risking destroying shafts taking them apart lol

how do you cut them,grinder with slitting disk work?

not sure id trust a shaft id cut tho,i worry too much lol

It should be fine, the Diff is different in std form as it's different from the early spec one's, Design changed around 1993. The box's are all the same near as damn it

sorry, so do i need to use a shorter stubby vts/gti-6 inner end or will a standard 205/309 shaft be ok?

was soo gutted when id got it up and running before,took for a spin and then when i came out later there was gear oil all over my nice driveway :blush:

want to try get it all right 1st time round this time,esp. if im going to put some expensive oil in with the tran x diff dont want it on the floor again :lol:

standard will be OK. the tranX diff will take the normal driveshaft..GTI6BOY is wrong..Miles is right. The difference is in the diffs, the box and diff casing are the same. As you are swapping the diff, there is no need for the short driveshaft. The short driveshaft was needed due to the bigger diff in later boxes.

Does there have to be any chages fitting the xsara 5 speed box in the 205, ie like the clutch arm etc ?

 

Il be using a vts/gti6 engine.

Clutch could be converted to push instead of pull type. One of the linkage arms on top of the box should be swapped for a 205 one. (which is straight, the Xsara one has a bend).

surgie as said above you have to swap the linkage arm over(its obvious which one) try not to let the bit it fits to drop in the box when you take the pin out tho.

i remember i made up a custom clutch cable to make it work as standard and was fine for over 10k miles then i crashed the car :blush: now reshelling it but i cant remember how i made the clutch cable work... doh :)

Could keep the bracket, take a longer clutch cable (from a 1.1) and route that UNDER the box. Now you have pull type clutch operation :wub:

Correct. RHD cars have a longer cable so you could use a BE1 cable as well.
