I put Toyo Proxies 4 on my daily driver 1.9 GTi. Have been rather impressed with them, they have worn well in 10,000 miles, and are very grippy, particularly in the dry. But Im sure there are people who know alot more about tyres on here than me.. :)

Michelin PE2's are about as good as you can get I reckon. I'm on goodyear eagle F1's which are good budget jobs but might go with the pe2's when it's back on the road.

Toyo proxes seem o.k but I had 2 defective ones so steer clear now.

Ive had these since 2005 and are only half way down the tread, though the two tyre's are on the rear end, so have

lasted a while, the grip on my 205GT was good, in the wet as well.

Not a bad shout. I have them on my 309, they seem reasonable considering the cost. Henry Yorke also runs them on his turbo Skip i know of.

Last A539 i had lasted less than a month, SHOCKING in the wet...

^ In the wet the A539 tried to write my car off at speeds no more than 30mph!

Three times they span me out in the wet!

In the dry they grip to a point and then let go, with dangerous consequences

Might be your car as mine are satisfactory tyre's, iv had a lot worse but carn't over rate them.

I do drive fast and done approx 8k miles, the front ones worn out after around the 4k mark, they for me

are not bad tyre's, as my experiance with them is ok.

I'll be very interested in any agreed answers to this as I'm getting a little bored of the complete lack of grip in the wet on a full set of pirelli p6000 (not my choice, the previous owner!!)

I will be sticking with 185/55 15 and not going down the 195/50 route! I have had some quotes and heard some good things about the Goodyear Eagle F1s in that size, I've also been told to avoid the Yoko's due to a very short lifespan.

Short lifespan and severe lack of grip when needed!

There is no way I would go anywhere near any of Yokohamas standard tires for the road ever again. I have done lots of reading recently and the only tire I would go for on the road is an Eagle gsd1. A very good friend of mine just tracked a 205 at a recent trackday at aintree and said Toyo T1r's went off very very quickly compared to Yoko ADVAN A048 medium front and soft rears that He usually runs.

Hope this helps

048 mediums for me...

I've had a set of the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 tyres on the GTI, then onto my CTI. Best tyres I've ever had in both wet & dry. There's probably a new tread pattern by now though....

excelent advice.

so now

I got set of 17 and 2 set of 15

what would be the best size for 17 and what for 15?

oh and it goes on my 205 1.9 td project :

- front will be basicaly 306 td shocks with lowered springs and rear gti6 shocks and lowered beam - good idea or should I think it over again? ( budget of around or would say nearly to nothing)

Falken 912's they're very similar to PE2's but nearly half the cost. The PE2 is a better tyre, but not by much. Also very quiet and good in the wet too

I'll stand up for A539's they last ages for track abuse, not great in the wet, but better than quickfit arrow speed's for sure. And for the cost were awesome, I had a set last 2 years of track and ring abuse. Parada's are just the upgraded version, they're ok cheap and last well. but not for an everyday all conditions tyre.

Also Kuhmo KU31's are good jobs too.

I used to have a set of Pirelli P5000 dragos on mine, and they were easily the best tyres in the wet Ive ever had. I think they are discontinued now which is a shame, so Ive got a set of Toyo proxes T1S which are still pretty good imo.

Am I the only one who found that Toyos completely fell apart at the slightest hint of hard driving?

Need some new tyres on my Astra soon, was thinking of BF Goodrich, as used to run the old style on my 106 Gti - very consistent and lasted well. Stood up well to track use too.

I ran Toyos for a long time. They were good in the dry, ok in the wet. Not as good as id heard.

They lasted fine, and stodd up well to spirited driving, but never took on track etc.

Im now running Eagle F1s. Which so far, are better in both wet and dry.

GSD3 is still the only Eagles available in 15" last i checked. There are the new Asymetrical Eagle, but there only 17 or 18 and up.

912's are a good shout. I might give them a go next at that price (£40 a corner at Camskill).

As said for a budget tyre the 912's come out very good in most tyre reviews too, Not quite as good as a couple but not far off, The 452's are better but not available in 15"

But Toyo T1R are better than Yoko 539's not allot thou, F1's are just poor, I;ve used a driven a few car;s with them on and always been hugly disapointed each time, Not just 205's either

Michelin Pilot Exalto 2

Bridgestone RE720 (harder than the Michelin)

I had Toyos T1R in the Impreza and they were OK-ish. Very squeeky though and soft.

Buy the best tyre you can afford, it's false economy getting the cheapest.

I like the Falkens as many have mentioned, dont think the 912 comes in the smaller sizes though, only the 452, which my brother also has on his 306, good so far :D

A539's, not as bad as the Toyo's I found, at least the yoko's gave an indication of where the limit was...

Both very poor compared to the Michelins that were on my 405, since then have Avon ZV5's on the 405, grip and seem to last as well as the Michelins previous, but a fair bit noisier.

I think its the other way round mate. Can't find 452'd in 15 but camskill do 912's in 185/55/15.

Why has no one suggested a search, there's a massive thread on tyre recommendations as the question regularly arises!
