Seriously Overfueling

Hi all

 

My bro has a 1.6 gti which has started to be extremely lumpy and now wont idle at all and puffs out lots of smoke when revved, it seems like it is seriously overfuelling as when you give it some stick it clears and goes like poop off a shovel!! He said the water temp isnt goin up anywhere near as much what it was now also!!

 

Im thinking its either a dodgy water temp sensor in the block givin the ecu false cold readings causing it to pump more fuel in ie on choke!!

I know im talking to the experts so whats everyone reckon it could be?

well there are some good threads on here on how to clean the sad out, as it gets right gunked up.

 

the temp sensor is about 8 quid, you can measure it off the car in some hot / boiling water to check it's resitance.
