Pug 106 Speed Sensor

Is it possible to fit a 106/saxo speed sensor to a 1.6 GTI g/box? I'm thinking of replacing the whole dash and speedo in my 205.

yup, same fitting.

you'd need to make sure the cogs are the right combination to get an accurate reading from the speedo, or run smaller tyres.

Cheers. Will compare it to my gps speed reading when i get it all up and running. I was hoping it just ran a cable like to the 205 but it converts it to an electrical signal for the speedo to use.

early ones run a cable just like the 205, later ones run a purely electric signal like the later 306.

if you are running a 2.0 Mi16 you should already have an electronic pickup that you can use to feed the 106 speedo, just bung the hole where the cable used to go.

My current setup is 1.6 gti g/box with standard speedo cable coming out to speedo. Where would the pickup be?

so you haven't got an electronic pickup for your ecu on your speedo drive?

No. I bought the engine and g/box complete. All I had to do was drop it in the engine bay and connect a few cables for it all to work. It uses a standard 205 speedo cable to drive the speedo

doh, it'll have an annoying flatspot at low revs then, I would fit one as soon as you can, fairly easy to find, they're found on Phase1 1.4 306's amongst others, so easy to track down

you want one of these buggers on the right, the one on the left is the original one with the drive sprocket removed.

Can't say i've noticed a flat spot, the ACAV is working correctly.

Had a quick look on service box to see what the 306 one looks like. Where does the connector on the speedo drive connect to? I see it has a fitment for the standard speedo cable and an electrical plug.

Def not got that one lol.

it'll be at idle to 1500 where its most noticable, like a delay from putting your foot down and anything actually happening, nothing to do with the acav.

it connects to a plug on the wiring loom....

Cheers mate. I think I may have noticeed a hesitation occasionally at around 1500rpm now you mention it. its been a while since I last drove the car and its tooked away in my garage the other side of town. Not sure if the plug is still on the loom but looking on Autodata its not too difficult to wire it all in properly.
