Modified Xu10j2 In 205 -> Great!

Recommended Posts

sub205

Hello,

my car is running, drove already about 500 kilometres.

first conclusion: great driving!

my old engine was equiped with a good cam and a long gearbox.

i modified the head and ports of the xu10-head and gave it a better camshaft.

this engine pulls much better than the xu9, at 160km/h (~4800rpm) the engine gets another huge amount of newtonmetres and pulls straight over 200km/h (~6000rpm), then i had to break because of work traffic.

anyone who can get such an engine and is interested to put it in his car -> do it! this engine, correctly built up and tuned, is really great for an 8v!

I would imagine that its the ecu making most of the difference over the 1.9 jetronic than anything :(

it was a motronic-car anyhow ... ;-)

there are many small differences:

- inlet valves

- compression

- better camshaft

- less stroke

- better ecu

- no airflowmeter

- wider throttle body

- ported inlets

anyway, one of the main reasons for this swap was the fact that this engine had only ran for 85000km and was cheap.

the other things are good, too, and in sum produce more power than the standard xu9 just wont give without good tuning.

also, the xu10 has a better crankshaft for smoother engine run.

some people say the heavier crankshaft will keep the engine from reving that fast as an xu9 can do, but personally i feel that this engine revs much better and has more potential than _my_ old one. maybe a good xu9 with low milleage may achieve the same performance, but i dont own one. my xu9 hat about 160tkm, with pistons with about 220tkm. so it was clear what to do. :(

may have been motronic before, but still had afm, would be good to see what the torque and power curves are like.

i'll go to check that in some weeks, keep you informed then.

Yeah get it rolling roaded and lets see some results :( This subject has been discussed before since other members did the same swap and felt like they got good results out of it. Would be nice to see some dyno tests though :(

Im glad you got it all sorted and that you are pleased with the results. I certainly liked my version of this engine in my 306! Will be interested to see power/torque if you do happen to get it measured

what brand ECU are you using?

magnetti marelli... with idle problems ;-)

have to build me an own idle system or change the ecu, some people they this ecus have problems.

maybe cold solder joint inside?

i also have a megasquirt lying around, do someone have proper maps for this engine?

The XU10 has shorter stroke than the XU9 <_<

i heard motec and megasquirts are good, are you thinking of changing oveR?

i've had the megasquirt in my xu9jaz-loom with some minor mods.

the biggest problem i see is that i need this car every day and its no option to drive 140km per day with bad ignition or fuel settings and ruining the engine.

so i have a very small timeframe in which the ecu has to run good.

also i need a wideband controller for a good accurate setup.

They're opposite ends of the spectrum in just about every way. They both shoot fuel however.
