Clutch Inspection Plate

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me what this plate looks like please? It's to jam the starter gear for removing the crank pulley bolt. It's mentioned in a few cambelt change guides but no description (shape, no. and size of bolts etc) of it or pictures.

I'm making slooooow progress with this job....

on top of the gearbox, there is a little cut out where you can lock the flywheel with a tidy sized screw driver, you would need a friend to hold it steady though!

To answer my own question for future reference...

The plate is accessed from underneath, trapezoidal in shape with one curved edge, vertical and held on with 3 10mm bolts. You can tell its the one by tapping it, as it's pretty thin metal compared to anything else around it.

(Thanks Nathan for pointing it out yesterday!)

Thats the flywheel cover... you cant even see the clutch from there.

So should I be jamming that to get the crank pulley bolt off? Or something else?

I've not seen one decent documented instruction on how to do this and it's hacking me right off.

I normally stick a screwdriver in at the TDC marker. This is just above the starter motor and gives you a nice angle to wedge the screwdriver and rest it against the bell housing.

Cheers Ed, I'll give that a go.

Bloody annoying being stuck on something so stupid.

Yep sure is, for things like this I got myself a rattle gun. Makes jobs nice and easy.
