Rolling Road Results

Recommended Posts

John_B

After I had trouble with my original rebuilt Mi, I bought Dave Walker’s old project BX to use the engine while my original engine was being repaired. The plan is to use the TBs, Verniers and ECU on my fixed rebuilt engine when it’s finished.

Anyway, after taffycrook had tightened the timing belt for me, why do they always come loose?, we got it on the rollers. We went to Got Boost in Llandow.

Originally I thought the result was OK. 164bhp against the 169 that Dave had seemed OK since the engine has had some abuse since then. But having looked at the graph from PPC I’ve just realised we are losing 11 lbft!!!!!!!

The fuelling was a bit up and it could do with a service but still :) ………… The torque curve seems to pick up 1000rpm further up?

I went down to got boost a few weeks ago for its opening, a brand new fiesta tdci something or other made book power and 2ftlbs more torque. my car, being 40degrees out on the lower timing pulley, made 160bhp and 120 ftlbs torque. other cars made good results and were consistant with previous results from rolling roads accross the country.

AFR is a bit wavey by the looks of it, but its making good power at the wheels.

the torque dial in on the dyno could have been different

different dyno, different day. No way you can make a fair direct comparison. Your AFR plot looks pretty poor though

Aint the afr just dropping on gear change....

Not going too weak

Was the tuner using a 2nd lambda or down the exhaust pokey stick.... latter, could be the cause

you dont change gear on a power run. it should be done in 4th from low RPM to limiter (or thereabouts)

The fueling is going rich, so power will be lost. Tailpipe wideband normally only gives odd readings at low RPM, once you get revs up and gas speed is reasonable they read pretty damn well

i apoligise

the graphs seemed to follow the drop off and gain as if it were changing gear

but hey ho i am no expert i will leave it to you lot

Yeah it's a power run so obviously no gear changes. The sesnor was put up the exhaust but I'm not worried by that either.

After taffycrook looked at the map for me it turns out that it's a bit of a strange one. The fuelling settings are all over the place. I think Dave Walker may have altered the map quickly to get it through the MOT, or I've somehow ballsed it up by accident.

Anyway I'll switch to the standard BX map and see how it goes then.

How's it improved with the new mapping John.

Should be much better in the mornings, and on the road compared to the old map.

I would imagine some of the missing torques are back too.

It's definitely better now.

Cold starting is much better although it still idles at 700rpm until warm. Feels maybe a tiny bit quicker but not a lot. Pickup in gear is much better (torques?). Blipping the throttle you can tell the engine is far more responsive. Heel and toeing is far easier. Misfires on light throttle at low revs though.

The original map, the one used for the above power run is on the left, the one I've just switched to is on the right. The injection maps are totally different.

I think this may be why the cold starts are a little better!
