Mi 16 Cutting Out

Recommended Posts

large

My 1.9 mi 16 is runnig standared inlet manifold wiring loom and ecu (all from a bx).

My problem is when I rev the car on 6.5K or so it is as if the engine cuts out (large amount of engine breaking). This has happened a couple of times, when it has happened my reaction has been to lift off. The engine then seemes to run normaly.

I have had the revs up to 7k so this looks to be an intermitant fault.

I am thinking rota arm or dizzy cap, any ideas?

Do the revs die?

I had something similar when I first got he mi16 running. I solved it by:

Cable tieing the AFM up so the connection can't be knocked

Sorting out a small kink in the main fuel line

Tightening up the + connection on the main connection box which was loose

I also had it jerking the other day which seems to have been solved by cleaning the breathers and tightening up a start motor bolt that had worked loose by about an inch!

Other things to try would be AFM / Ignition amp if you have a spare.

P.S Take all of your earths off and clean them up...

The only way I can describe the fault is rev the car on then turn the engine off at 6.5K and turn it back on almost straight away engine revs have gone down to about 4K. You get a lot of engine breaking then it runs :) .

Thanks for the reply I will go and dig out an ing amp.

ive got a spare coil and ign amp here if you want to try em? i'll trade it for a go of your crank sensor.

This cutting out could be due to the crank sensor... :)

might your fuelpump be cutting out and giving the engine no fuel? Something like a blocked injector? or dirty fuel filter?

Yer i think we could sort that out stu (i have got an amp so just the coil) as i did remove the thermostat housing and got the coil wet, the car has done 250 miles after that. This problem started last night after driving back from west wales 100 miles ish.

I think it is electrical as as the engine cuts dead then comes back to life a second later. I would have thought if it was fule it would splutter/miss. I could be wrong (happens alot).

Thanks all.

Update, I think I have found the problem. The part of the loom that runs past the alternator has been rubbing on it to the point that it has exposed one of the wires. I think it may be the feed to the coil. So when it touches the alternator it is dropping the voltage to the coil and causing the engine to cut out. B):P .
