Not 205 But 306 Engine Conversions..

Hi all,

Ive got a friend thats going to be converting his 306 2.0 8v xsi engine for a 2.0 16v Gti-6 engine. were both clued up about what needs changing mechanical wise but were not sure about the wiring side.

Question is: Does anyone here know if the wiring is a straight swap or if there is any adjustment needed? we have had a look over the net and were getting conflicting reports.

some say its a straight swap were others say you will need to re wire the car with a 16v loom from the wing to the dash.

any ideas? is anyone able to check the wiring diagrams to see if they match?

Mechanically it's a straight swap. Use the short driveshaft, complete exhaust en clutchcable from the GTi6 as well.

But the electronics need some rewiring even if the GTi6 engine is from the same phase 306. Both have the two round multiplugs but the pins are different.

As above, the 8v's run Bosch (I think) so different from the GTi6, Easiest and quickest way if your not 100% with wiring is swap, Dash, Engine bay loom which doesn;t take long either

yer i did say to him about swapping the whole loom over. His only thing about it, is that the cars his daily driver so cant be off the road for to long.

Would it not be more straightforward just to buy a 306 GTi-6 in the first place seeing as they're so cheap these days, and get all the other nicities of a '6 and much more straightforward insurance etc? Certainly I'm not sure that there would be much in it once you've bought all the bits and bobs that you'd need and factored in your time... :D
