Fuel Pump For Swirl Pot

Recommended Posts

suth82

Hi,

I am currently running an mi16 with weber 45's on a facet red top fuel pump and single regulator setup but have been suffering badly from fuel surge on cornering.

I am now considering installing a swirl pot to try and solve this problem. My question is what type of fuel pump would you use between the tank swirl pot? I would presume it would probably be a facet solid state pump or similar? If so what flow rate would be required as i beleive there are a few models available.

I still have the original "in tank" pump lying around somewhere but i think the pressure in the swirl pot would be too high if i used that? I also have an old silver top facet spare, maybe that could be used?

Lastly, how have you plumbed in the swirl pot, my presumed setup at the swirl pot would be:

1. Supply from solid state fuel pump.

2. Overflow return to tank.

3. feed to red top pump.

4. Breather or blanked?

Thanks, Paul

Hi,

Thanks for your reply but i had already read that topic plus several other search results but i cant find anything which really answers all my questions.

The linked topic gives examples of both high and low pressure pumps feeding the swirl pot, the pictures also show a swirl pump used in an injection system and not carbs like mine. The injection fuel rail has a tank return line unlike the carbs. would this inlet on the swirl pot be blanked on a carb application or used as a breather?

Sorry - I didn't realise this was for carbs

I'll let someone else answer this

if you have a fuel return to the tank then you could use a standard fuel pump in the tank i'd have thought. Then you just need a normal low pressure fuel pump to your carbs. As long as the pipe is the same diameter excess fuel will basically be pumped back into the tank without causing a restriction. Not sure you would be able to run a breather in case fuel was forced up that pipe once the swirlpot is full so i'd blank it off.
