Odd Vibration

Recommended Posts

richsmells

Hi, I drove to work yesterday absolutely fine and parked the car up, nothing felt wrong at all.

When I left and started it, I could immediately feel a deep vibration through the car, steering wheel and pedals.

The clutch engages fine and it drives okay, no loss of power. It's definitely related to engine speed, but not the drive train.

I popped the bonnet, but I can't hear it knocking.

It's an XU5JA

What do you think?

Unfortunately it's had a new lower mount when I first got it (5ish years). I would have thought I would have felt it progressivly wearing out rather than suddenly occuring. :D

Whilst driving , does it stop with this "vibration" behaviour when you shift the box into the neutral or when you press the clutch ?

For the start id check all the engine mounts carefully , loosen up a bit each mounting nut/bolt and tight back (once when i bought brand new "Sasic" top engine mount entire bolt ,which is pressed inside the mount in the rubber, split apart off from the mount base together with the piece of rubber during tightening the nut on top of it !) .

Also , try to leaver up the engine a bit from few sides with long bar and check for excessive engine movement : back-to-front , sideways , up-and-down .

Check the top mount how it is bolted onto the engine I have had them shear in the past.
