New 205 Engine Progress

Recommended Posts

Ive got hold of a nice TU3J engine from an ax gti with 52k on the clock. Engine came with bodged loom, and the fuel injection system. I have pulled this off and started stripping the engine for a check over. Ive bought a set of GSXR600 bike carbs and mild steel 4 branch manifold for cheap thrills. Im interested in removing the fuel injection and running a standalone ignition and bike carbs.

I have a TU3F Bosch Monotronic engine which came in the car, and was wondering if the dizzy and loom can be used to run ignition on my TU3J??

If not I have found a donar ax gt, and was wondering which bit of the engine loom I will need to take from the car to work? i am right in thinking it disconnects from the bulkhead, or do I need to remove any wiring from behind the dash??

Final thing, does anyone have any more information on running a TU3J inside an TU3S block (i.e pistons, rods and crank) Im interested in loosing some weight off this heavy iron block!! Or would the iron block be more reliable?

Any help much appreciated.

is the AX gti management coilpack stuff? I'd leave that on there for the ignition side of stuff rather than going backwards to a dizzy.

It is coil pack. Its a pre-cat engine with loom and ecu. Can I use the ecu and coilpack to drive the ignition only??

i am running a alloy xsi engine. The crank is the same so you only need to change pistons and use head. The iron block would take more punishment i.e heat. i sometimes wonder if it was worth the hassle but depends what you are using car for. i had trouble on first build with sump pressure. But you are on the right track for making a awesome angine with the TBs i went down the twin weber route first and ends up just as expensive buying the carbs and internels to get it running right, wish i spent little bit more for TBs.

I dont know which ignition management to choose. Im toying between axgt/tu3f dizzy, or run stock ax managment without fuelling, or use megajolt. what would you suggest is better??

Does anyone know if the TU3F (bosch monotronic) engines are cast iron or alloy blocks??

If you are running gsxr boddies, i would run stand alone engine management like DTA s40 and you can either make your own loom or DTA does a loom suited.

I think they are GSXR600 carbs. I won them for £30 :) If they are bodies, then happy days, that shouldnt be a problem to wire up. Im just a bit stuck if they are carbs, which ignition setup to use?? Stock gti managment but unplug injector system (no rev limiter- can use omex) or use a dizzy/coil setup from a TU3F or TU3S. Not sure

IIRC the limiter if on a coilpack will be spark cut not fuel cut like jetronic, which would explain why mine chuffs flames if I'm being naughty where it never used to on jetronic :)

i would of thought they were bodies, and hopefully they are K1 or k2, i would avoid i think its k3 or k4 because they are kinda set up like twin carbs (its the the way they are moulded) and harder to tweak. If you have carbs and not bodies then use the simpler TU3s setup.
