Is Mi16 And 1.9 Gti Headgasket The Same?

Hi,

 

Basically, is the mi16 headgasket and 1.9 gti the same? I am about to buy a Cometic headgasket, but they are only listed for mi16, and the smallest bore is 84mm? Can i use this?

I changed a HG a few weeks ago on a 1.9 mi16 and checked the one that came out against one I had for an 8v engine and yes they are the same.

Okay thanks. What about the headgasket being 84mm. Is there a reason for this and will it fit?

It'll fit yes, iron block gaskets are typically 87mm on an 86mm bore too, it's to allow the piston to protrude above deck height IIRC.
