Gearbox Question

Recommended Posts

burr_2000

Hi all, I have a pug 205 with a rallye gearbox which i use for sprints and climbs, is there any way i can ease the strain on the box when i come down from 3rd and into 1st (make the change less forcefull and bit more smooth). is there a better oil or a better clutch i could use. i want box to last as long as possible.

Thanks,neil

unless you're running big power you'll be fine with the standard original equipment clutch (note that's not just an off the shelf motorfactor one, stick to a recognized brand like Valeo)

as for oil if its a completely standard Peugeot gearset just use the manufacturer specified 75w80, preferably from Total Shell or Esso as they make a specific mix for Peugeot/Citroen.

Agreed. Having used v expensive oils and a paddle Alcon clutch, I've gone back to a standard 205 rallye Valeo clutch with Total gearbox oil and it works really well, the change is better and not noticeably slower. It is easier to get it off the line and doesn't slip even with approx 120bhp at the fly.

Forgot to mention its a 106 rallye gearbox with quaiffe. Can you not do anything with selector.

rose jointed rods from miles are well praised. you can laso get bronze bushes for the lever-pivot bit on the subframe. that should elliminate most of the slop, which should help a little ;)

after reading through that, my replys probably not relevant lol, but every little helps :)

Ah the Quaiffe bit could be the problem, i had no problems with standard peugeot gears then the quaiffe gear kit went in and it just chews it's ways through synchros and doesn't like down changing at big revs, one change can wipe out a synchro....

if its just the quaife diff and standard synchro's I'd definitely still use pug spec oil, it would be different if it was a quaife gearkit.

Having run the MA with the Quaiffe gear kit with the Silkolene Pro SRG and the standard Peugeot Total oil it really is a lot better on the Total despite what Quaiffe might recommend.
