I'd imagine the change in how the lower arm attaches to the hub and the height of the pivot compared to the inner wishbone pivot and the altered angle of the wishbone, as well as the inner rack pivot necessitated a change ?

The steering arm and lower arm move through different arcs, combined with the changing strut angle to produce what usually becomes a sort of S-shaped movement through the travel, which changes again on lock!

It's a true custom job. There's even extra work I didn't know about to the chassis.

 

The steering and suspension is assembled and parts tacked and then it's all tested with a trolley jack, pointers and guages; then if he's not happy he changes and repeats until coolio.

 

Should be good, especially on the R888s. :lol:

 

Thanks for the comments. I can't wait to drive this thing, because the engine's a known, bedded in quantity, so it can get the beans from the get go.

I had not thought about on lock! but that is probably the most important time though!

 

my head can't quite get round how you would measure toe in or out when you have steering lock on. Do you mark the wheel at a particular position then take comparison readings with different positions.

You just need a datum to measure bump steer from, even on lock.

 

Turntables is a good way if you got them. Geometry setup and modification is a real art, it isn't just bash together! Admire the work done by colin here, looking good.

307 Hdi 283mm x 26 brake disc-----6.9 kgs, i wonder how much lighter the xsara ones are?

 

found the answer to this at lunch on the parts weight thread, 4.2kgs.. that's a hellovalotoweight..

 

does anyone have the part number for these? i would assume they are the 22mm rather than 26mm ones?

not a clue which discs you found Kyepan !

 

the only Xsara disc that is that light is the 247 x 20.5mm base model disc at 4.15kg, which is the same part as a standard 1.9 205 disc.

No dramas at all sir. I can confirm that they are indeed 22mm thick and that the weight difference is considerable.

 

I can't confirm part number though, although I will ask Colin to confirm exactly what he ordered, as they came from a motor factors with a fat bird delivery driver.

White or silver I think.

 

£20 for all this including cleaning, blasting (outside faces only) and bright red powder coat. They are redder than they look..at least so my dad says.

 

It seems these cam end caps are rocking horse poo. B)

 

EDIT: I've just realised the ULTIMATE cam cover, would be one that says '16v FTW'. :D (I believe that would be 'scene'.)

Rear brake caliper refurbing.

And yes, I'm going to commit the cardinal sin, and paint them red. :(

 

For the floor, rear inner quarter panels and inner door skins, I'm going for liquid sound-proofing products called 'Spectrum' and 'Sludge', from a company called 'Second Skin'. I've negotiated a special introductory price which I should be able to extend to all forum members as a group buy shortly.

 

Pictures of that being added/painted in shortly.

 

ITBs will be fitted with a heat barrier gasket too (using a unique material) and then it'll start to look sexy.

Interesting read, out of interest will you be running 306/xsara length driveshafts now that you are running the 306 'bones?? And any pics of the modified 205 subframe where the 306 wishbones bolt or is that top secret colin stuff? :)

Just thought I'd read your build thread and found my handy work.

 

Sid and I will be painting the calipers today, I didn't like the red much, so I've got some nice bright yellow here instead, or highline purple maybe.
