Using Pistons To Raise Compression

Hi,

 

I have a DKZ block with pistons and need a higher CR to work with my 285 degree camshaft.

 

I have had 40thou/1mm skimmed from the head which should have raised the CR from the standard 9.2:1 to approx 10.0/10.1:1.

 

What I'm thinking is if I put some standard 1.9/D6B pistons this will bring the CR up to approx 10.4/10.5:1 which is a better ratio for the camshaft.

 

Will this work the way I am hoping it will, and is my quick run through of the procedure below correct?:

 

- Head removed

- Sump off, oil pump out

- Rod caps and bearings off and out

- Liners removed with the pistons and rods still inside

 

- Clean liners, now will a rehone be needed for the new pistons?

- Slide in new pistons and rods with new piston rings spaced correctly

- Slot in liners with new seals

- Rod caps reattached

- Check heights of liners to block are within tolerances

- Oil pump in and sump on

- Head back on

 

Are there any major steps I missed, and valuable tips to help me or important things I should note?

Whilst doing this is there anything else I should not over look, such as replacing bearings or will they be fine to use (believed to be about 15k miles since bottom end rebuild), uprated oil pump spring?

 

Any comments and advice would be greatly appreciated, Matt

mostly correct yeah..... but I am sure you will have to check the liner protusion without the seals... I may be wrong tho. Someone else possibly? What is the liners protusion meant to be anyway?? Alternatively you could use some liner guides to keep the liners in place while you remove the old pistons and hone the bores..... Then you wouldnt have to disturb the liner seals potentially finding that the bottom of the block is too corroded to provide a good enough seal with new seals.....

Is it worth just buying a complete D6B block and swapping over, or rebuilding the one I have as explained above?
