Recommended Posts

I just had to call out the AA as i had no gears, i was advised that it was the gear linkage had come off, he fixed it back but said he thought the gear box was losing oil and there was probably a cause to why the linkage came off in the first place.. i only recently got this pug, and it case it makes a difference its a 1.9 engine in a 1.6, the gearbox i believe is a quickshift..i have no other info,, please does anyone know of causes and solution s to why the linkage has come undone

New set of linkage rods are cheap enough, and checking the play in the sub frame mounted bits would cure all the issues you have no doubt.

The 205 is notorious for having crap linkages, but they only pop on and off so it is easy to fix.

Dont worry!

Once they start popping off its best to replace them as the plastic ball socket gets worn and they always come off when you least want them to,

Have a look at the gear linkages that have metal ends and have retaining clips so they can't come off, Miles from this forum sells them, you could pm him for a price, he's on ebay as mlshor if you want to have a look, I'll try and post a link to it, I've had no problems since fitting them,

If the linkages are worn as you say it'll probably make a huge difference if you replace them and the cost is pretty minor.

The 205 shift should be fast and accurate and it's a relatively prominant part of the driving experience.

It may not pop off again, but the whole linkage will likely be loose.

You might also want to have a look at the bottom fixing point on the linkage where it goes down to the subframe - it's often loose and make a big difference to the accuracy shift. You'll need to get underneath the car and tighten it from underneath.
