Mot Failure

Recommended Posts

Ok so took the Gentry in today for MOT, but the CO caused me to fail. The limit is 0.8 and I was up at 3.6.. :D

So my question is; what could cause it to be so high?

I have a CAT fitted, so could it be a dead cat? Or something more sinister? Also does anyone know of a good place that can sort this out local to Cov/Nuneaton?

the limits 0.30. sounds like an lambda sensor issue or a coolant temperature sensor fault. im in redditch and could take a look for you at work if your close enough.

Looking at new Lambda's - which one would I need? Or is it not possible to advise without seeing what's in there at the moment?

http://www.lambdasensor.com/main/muniversal.htm - they suggest 0258986502 (LS02)

i wouldnt go universal, there notorious for not working. your better off going for an ngk one to be honest. may cost a little more but the quality is miles better.

let me know if you can get over, i can get you booked in anyday next week. :D

Miles

The 105bhp engine's use a 3 wire sensor, the GTi's used the 4 wire one's.

How was the test done as most Gentry's where built before the cat law's even thou all fitted with one so the chassis number is what you go from and not the Reg plate.

I dunno Miles, they just plugged it into a machine and revved the t!ts off her  I can find out... would it be shown on the test sheet? BTW it's the Gentry I bought from Paul, so I know you've done some work on it :D

A copy of the emissions form is here: http://spikey-richie.co.uk/temp/scan0003.jpg

if its on a k plate with a cat, its tested as a cat. vin plate doesnt come in to it.

I thought that it depended on the actual build date of the car? I had a 309 on a k plate that was supposed to have a cat, but didn't and it went through two mots at different testing stations..... maybe they were both just s#(te test stations!!

Miles

92 was the change over so some had and some didn't, I know a couple of 205's I;ve had done in the past with cats removed at different stations too the chassis number confirmed which test was required.

I know when that car was MOT's last it passed fine so must be something simple
