Gearbox Filling Point/method

Recommended Posts

Subby

Hi,

Im really sorry to have to post this, ive searched the forum, and tried getting the info from the online haynes but the section is missing.

Basically where is the fill point for the gearbox on a 1.9 gti ? (lift up reverse if that makes any difference)

also is there a bolt that needs to be taking out so i know when its full ?

any help would be appreciated

thanks.

19mm bolt on the end of the gearbox is the level plug, and many also fill from there - otherwise, you can unscrew the lift-up reverse plug and fill from the top of the gearbox.

Earlier ones don't have that provision, but if it's an '89 as your sig. it should have, otherwise as Ant says unscrew the reverse lockout cable and fill there. (1.8litres of 75w80)

And GSF sell 1 ltrs of Total 75w80 for £5.25 + vat which I found was cheap for good stuff!

Best way. Remember to set your car on the level too, then any over will flow out.
