Gear Selection Problem

Recommended Posts

JimLad

....but can fine without.

Just did an autosolo with the local car club and after giving it some beans on the way home came to a junction and couldn't select first. Turned off engine and can select gears fine then. Just managed to limp home. Can't select any gear with engine running.

Someone at the event gave me a cap head bolt that he said my car flicked up..... I'm wondering is this gonna be a gearbox bolt?!

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Its not unheard of for the engine to gearbox bolts to work loose, especially if they have been fitted without the dowels. I'd check that first anyhow, esp the lower most one from underneath.

Thanks, I had a nasty feeling it might be that. Will have a check them first.

I always use thread lock on them, even with the dowels they come loose, one reason I think why the R and RS engine's have another 2 bolts to hold them together

Also check your clutch adjustment, this can cause selection problems if wear has not been taken up on the cable adjustment.

It was the lower most one that had come out - there was a good few mm between the bottom of the box and engine. Back in now with plenty of thread lock! ;)

Cheers
