Wrapping A 205

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

I have been thinking. Does anyone have any experience of vinyll wrapping cars.

What might it cost to get a 205 wrapped in one colour?

Thanks

Jonny

You are looking at around the £900 mark for a 205 GTi in a single colour.

Hmm...maybe i should wrap my car. Scared ill get the front end chipped now its painted !

Not seen any 205 bras either, though not sure i could bring myself to one lol.

Does it have any effect on the paint ? Long term usage wise, i know its a popular thing on the show scene, just wondering about everyday year to year stuff.

i think the maker of that camo-vinyl claimed it could be peeled of up to 5 years later or something with no paint damage!

maker? It was just a print on to white vinyl.

Anyway it depends on a few things, the quality of the paint (more importantly the lacquer) the quality of the vinyl and randoms like if it left in the sun for a long time. The grey vinyl on my 306 is a 8 year vinyl and the stuff I now use is a 10 to 12 year. After a year the grey came off the top half with a bit of a fight (roof took 7 hours), took off a tiny amount of lacquer and removed all the stonechip paint on the bonnet.

You can't guarantee that the paint won't be harmed - I removed some vinyl on an impreza that had been there for 10 minutes and it took the paint off. Might of helped if the bodyshop had prepared the paint right before spraying directly over the original. I ended up paying for that too...

Printed vinyl is generally good for at least 5 years if it is laminated and is a decent product.

Would it be an idea to put clear vinyl on the front wings, bonnet and valance to avoid direct stone chips on the front. Would this too glossy when compared with the rest of the body?

I've used 'all weather tape' previously to use as a clear protector in vulnerable spots.

This is what ive been wondering. But could go badly. Might protect the paint from stone chips, but damage it when it comes off ;) Either way your looking at a bodyshop repair. And with no guarentee it wont damage paint....
