Diy Gear Linkage

Recommended Posts

AJPMIKE

Sorry for the newbie type question, but i cant find my answer in the search facility.

Surely there must be a few people out there who have sucessfuly made their own rose jointed gear linkage sets?I cant believe the money that some people are charging for these, when you know how much good quality rod ends cost! Does anyone have the specs/dimensions so that you can diy your own set before taking your own off the car?

Also, whats involved in making a 'quick shift' mod?

Not too difficult to spec your own, 8mm rod ends will be plenty strong enough. I don't think too many people who make and sell them will be keen on sharing their secrets.

Yeh,i realise that the sellers wouldn't want to share the info-especially given the huge profit that must be in them!!I just wondered if anyone had the specs,ie lengthe, threads, rod ends etc, just to save me taking mine apart to find out, whilst i need the car to be on the road B)

I bet loads of people must have made their own, given the simplicity of it?

I got a long and short rod, with a medium one somewhere maybe in the scrap box, you can have them for postage costs if you want? Alternatively im up at castle combe most of the time if you wanna collect.

when you have the rose joint rod end, this will be a very easy way to have a quick shift.

why would you want to lengthen that end?

i chopped the shorter arm off, removed about an inch of materials, then welded it back up and smoothed it out. *looks original and is lighter :o *

yep, that's just another way to do it! you have to be a little more accurate when shortening as the ratio is halved on that side of the quadrant, also gives more clearance to the exhaust manifold :o

shorten the short side will give no alternative and no way to go back, i lengthened the longer side will allow me to go back and now i can have more holes there to try out which suit best. manifold clearance might be an issue but i got out with it, bend the extended bit may also solve the clearance if it exists. actually, the adjustability was the main concern when i fabricated mine :)

Sorry but that's how you find these things out I'm afraid. Can't have everything handed to you on a plate.
