Bloody Car Won't Start Again

Recommended Posts

spikey_richie

So i've put all my new bits on over the weekend, and everything was fine. Car started and moved in and out of the garage without probs. I didn't go for a proper drive as i'd not plugged the thermoswitch connecton back in. Went out just now and took the slam panel and grille off, and connected the thermoswitch back up; put it all back together and now it won't start. It's making a clicking noise, as if the started motor is stuck but could I have done anything by removing the slam panel and grille?

the main shunt box power connection is usually bolted to it, clean the connections on there, and that the battery terminals are clean and secure.

Have you checked the solenoid wire is still connected? Might have knocked it or its the peugeot gremlins pulling it off again!

Is that the small black box with 3 fuses? Or the bigger one with 5 relays in?

I can hear it clicking in and out Ed, so I think it's connected... I'll double check thou.

The sound it's making is like one of those kellogs things you put in your spokes when you're a kid.

usually the spokie dokie sound is when there is enough power to fire the starter solenoid but not enough to hold it or turn the starter..

Check your battery voltage - it needs to be at least 12.5, then check the end to end resistance of the solonoid wire from the fuse box to the solonoid, and the ignition barrel to the fuse board...

chances are it will be dreaded brown plug itus...

Brown-plug ahoy... Just took it all apart AGAIN and re-connected the battery. Fingers crossed, she's a go-er. Now to get 2 new tyres.

Thanks all :)

Quick test is to take wire off the solenoid and connect a wire direct from here to battery. Touching to positive should spin the engine, if so then it is the standard 205 starter problem.
