Gearbox Leaking Oil At Drive Shafts..

Recommended Posts

springs

i started putting some gearbox oil into the gearbox today. I only put in 1 ltr in and had a look around for any leaks etc.. I have found that oil is dripping out of the drivers side drive shaft where it connects into the gearbox.

I'm guessing that a seal has gone on the box.. are they easy to repair without taking everything apart?

You need to remove the driveshaft to replace the seal, but it's fairly simple yes.

is it just a case of removing the shaft and then the seal? or is the seal in some special housing that needs some special way to remove/replace?

You can pull them out with a screwdriver and then using the hubnut socket, knock the new one in place. Baz sells them in pairs and as you are draining the box again, you may as well do both

no special tools, just careful use of a large screwdriver, take care not to knock the new seal in too far, earlier gearboxes need them sticking out about a mm IIRC.

Yep, it seems they all need to sit 1mm or so proud of the diff housing to seal properly.

Not sure on part no- but the two sides are different sizes, so you need to order one off two different part no's.

I have had this problem with the last three gear box's in twelve months i was starting to think it was my car thinking that the box was'nt seated properly or something, but on the last change it seems to have held. :)

I'm having the same problem. Is there a step

by step guide anywhere? I'm willing to give things a go but I've never done this before!

Cheers

Iain
