Sunroof Blanking Again!

Recommended Posts

Rob Turbo

While I was at B&Q today I had an idea for removing my sunroof, clear plastic of some description, but with a window tint film on it, but what plastic do I go for? polycarbonate, polythene or acrylic, whatever I use it will be 2mm thick, covered with window tint film, then a white vinyl border to hide any sealent and bolted to the roof.

2mm sounds very thin? poly window kits are usually 4mm... sorry just saying what im thinking!

polycarbonate over acrylic as acrylic warps and stains from sunlight

I know the window kits come in 3mm and 4mm, but I think 4mm sticking up on the roof would look rather crap!

I thought about the same a few years ago. My idea was to use a kind of universal window-rubber.

Or try to make an alloy frame so you can mount it from underneath, flush with the roof and seal the gap with sikaflex.

I was planning on mounting it the same as a "regular" sunroof blanking plate, mainly because I think it would look better than a plate, not so much because it lets light in!

So am I better off with polycarbonate over the other two?

Thanks,

Rob
