Are Mi16 And 8v Dipsticks The Same Length?

Recommended Posts

Chris H

My dipstick has broken at the end where the punched hole is.....the last 50mm must be floating in the sump somewhere!

Anyway...i need to replace it and have lots of XU 8v ones and wonderd if they nare the same.

Not sure why it broke in the first place though...need to check whats going on when i drop the sump off to find the missing piece!

pretty sure the 8v one is shorter, certainly a different part number.

1.9 Mi16 - 1172 99 ENGINE OIL GAUG LONG 491

Alloy 8v XU 1172 79 ENGINE OIL GAUG

1174 17 ENGINE OIL GAUG - INJECTION XU10J4

1174 18 ENGINE OIL GAUG - INJECTION XU10J4 AND AIR CONDITIONING + TURBO INJECTION XU10J4TE AND AIR CONDITIONING

The 8v and 16v dipsticks are different lengths. Ordering a new one can be problematic too, as Peugeot (and a lot of other places too) often supply the wrong one if you ask for an Mi16 dipstick.

Ordering one for a BX 16V from a Citroen dealer usually gets the right one though.

Plenty of people still get the wrong one from pug, even with the part number. Normally the one for the 2.0 16V I think.

yup, the bottom of the sump is in the same place, 1.6 = deep dump, 1.9 shallow sump + spacer.
