Gearbox Mount - Something Is Wrong

Recommended Posts

Masekwm

Hey!

I changed my lower mount (again) earlier tonight, and quickly checked over the rest of the car. I noticed my gearbox mount was loose so tightened it up.

Strangely it turned but wouldn't go tight, so I removed the mount and tightened the nut which it did.

So I put the mount back on and fastened the nut, and again it wouldn't tighten up, when it gets towards the bottom of the stud it just spins :D

I'm baffled, the stud isn't moving and the threads look fine. It's possible to tighten it without the mount, but once the mount is on it won't tighten up.

Any ideas?

A very confused

Keith

I'd say the threads arent fine if it's just spinning new stud and nut time by the sounds of things

Agreed, the threads may look fine but they will no doubt have lost some diameter.

Thats my plan for this weekend, after you drove it I packed the top mount and I've changed the lower mount for an official 306 diesel one but I've still got that jerky feeling.

Parts finally arrived at Peugeot today, minus the washer under the nut, so haven't driven it yet.

But I got the old stud out using a 1/2 drive Halfords Spark Plug socket and the threads at the bottom were knackered, wasted a lot of time removing the battery tray before noticing as I was about to remove the final bolt that I could change the stud with it in place.
