Engine oil is 10w40.

Gearbox oil is 75w.

Not sure what the exact spec of the power steering fluid is, is it wrong to be using automatic transmission fluid then?

Ok then,

Halfords and the 205 Haynes says 87 onwards BE1 and BE3 gearboxs take 2 litres of 75w/80,

Various local motor factors say 75w/90?

Halfords says 15w/40 for the engine oil,

Haynes 10w/40.

Everywhere agree on Dexron type ll ATF (automatic transmission fluid) for the PAS

So who is correct?

Baz

1.8l of 75w80 for the box (level plug on the end casing anyway)

5.3l of 10w40 depending on preference i guess, for the engine. Also depends if you're running an oil cooler etc etc too.

Miles

Anything on the engine, Most would have any old stuff in them by now, But a good one I;ve found is the Fuch's XTR 10/40, I had a engine run about 10 miles with a broken oil pump chain and it survied it and ran when repaired

Mineral, semi or full? My preference would be semi synthetic for cost reasons, is this ok to use and still stick to 10w40?

That's fine - semi-synth 10W40 is what I've always used on 8v's and Mi's
