Gti 6 Inlet Manifold Resonator

Recommended Posts

Veero

Right I have the GTi6 inlet manifold on my Mi16 and it has the resonator attached which IMO just gets in the way and as far as I can tell makes so little difference to driving it is unoticeable.

Now the Mi16 obviously doesn't have one and it makes hooking up the leads and hoses underneath the manfold a royal pain in the backside.

2 questions:

-Is it needed?

-If I remove it what's the best thing to blank the hole with?

Cheers

Veero

AFAIK it gives low down torque so i would keep it tbh!

I run mine without the resonator, although not through choice. :D

Blank the hole with a bit of ally and some sealant, that's all that's needed.

Screw on standard milk bottle top fits in the hole perfectly! Or an Oasis bottle top.

I'd go with something a bit stronger than that to be honest..

Used it a year, worked fine.

Im not counting stuff that is backfiring through the inlet because its unmapped!

have done a few searches on this, has any one got any evidence that it makes a huge diffrence to torque spread or low down torque? (or is it just a sound reducing thing?) im guessing it sounds a lot more like a mi16 with ally manifold? just mine will be going back together soon, and wondering wether to sack off the resonator or leave it.

sory to drag up an old thread! but it proves i am searching!

thats ok as long as you dont get a misfire and blow thus bottle cap out and then wonder why it idles at 3k

i run one on mine but purely because i cant be arsed to seal it up properly

Mines been filled with weld ,And works fine .I sent it off to be mapped with one and when i got it back the cock and welded the hole up .

what about the sound?

The car is mega loud has some silly group n system on it ,But i never heard it before mate so i cant comment i only fitted it just so i could get the car mapped without sill gsxr throttle bodies ,

i think ill blank mine off, for what i may loose in power/torque i wont notice in the events i intend to do. and it would be nice to have a bit more room under there, go get to things easyer. and induction sound gets me hard

The resonator is for inlet noise, not to help power / torque.

thats ok then, i just read it on a 306 forum.

I was under the impression that it balanced the airflow giving a smoother torque curve?

that is what i have read, and that if they wanted to make the induction sound quieter, wouldnt they just fit a different air box? or fit a resinator to the indution pipe like vauxhall?

They do have one on the air box of the Gti6 as standard :P

I read up quite abit on this, and seems its just a noise related issue, its called a Helmhotz Resonator,Google it :o

As above.. the resonator is too large to be placed any further up the inlet as the frequency they're dealing with is pretty low.

Threw mine in the bin and blanked the hole with a core plug

I'm considering to put a gti6 manifold on my 1.9 Mi16 as well.

Does this give a significant performance benefit (with a aftermarket ecu)?

Not significant, but yeah it does give a performance benefit. Whether it's worth it depends on the price you get the manifold for.

Does the TPS of the Mi16 is direct to the throttle body of the GTi6?

1.9 I think not.

2.0 does :)
