Removing The Throttle Body Coolant Circuit..

Recommended Posts

Stu

Hi all,

Given that im going through the cooling system at the moment making changes, i figure as i intend to move over to carbs just as soon as ive sorted the headgasket situation out it might be an idea to remove the pipework that feeds the throttle body.

So, do you just blank the hoses off? The stat housing is easy enough, but im struggling to come up with a neat solution for the header tank feed..

no you need to link the stat housing to the header tank, you might find it runs hot otherwise.

Ye all you need to do is put the pipe from the header tank onto the termostat housing. You don't need anything on the throttle body at all.

Someone could explain me why the throttle body is warmed by the cooling system?

I would expect it is probably just for cold countries to stop the throttle butterfly freezing or something. It is only needed for cold climates anyway.

As above, it just helps to warm the inlet charge on really cold mornings. Or in my case, is another potential leakage point.. :P

This morning I removed the throttle body coolant circuit. I just linked hte long original rubber pipe from the thermostat housing to the header tank.

I think is silly I have and induction kit to feed cold air into the engine, and then it is warmed at 80° through the throttle body.
