Oil Pressure Gauge

Recommended Posts

Quick question for all the very clever people on here, I've replaced my engine (1.9 8V) and I need clarification on what my oil pressure gauge is reading.

Basically i've tried all the connections by the alternator nothing makes a difference.

What I'm actually getting is, a display of MAXIMUM oil pressure permanently, this is still active after the fan has cut in and out.

The only thing that I have not checked is whether or not it is from ignition ON or not.

any assistance as always appreciated.

Note all other gauges seem to be working as normal

sounds like you have the oil pressure sender and low pressure switch wires the wrong way round.

The sender works on the earth side of the system,so if you remove the wire from the sender and earth it onto anythin metal on the car the gauge goes to maximum

So could well be your wire that goes to the sender is earthing out along the way somewhere, try the dodgy brown plug below dizzy :)

The way to test sender is to remove the wire from it and see if your gauge drops,if it does its the sender thats knackered,if the gauge stays on maximum its not the sender and you have a problem in the wiring or in the dash clocks.

The oil pressure gauge sender is the bigger of the two right close to each other,on the right as you look from the front. :D
