Best Way To Clean Tree Sap

Recommended Posts

GLPoomobile

My car is parked under trees, and I never gave it a thought that this wouldn't be a good idea with the onset of spring. So now it looks like an elephant has spunked its load all over it. It's absolutely bloody covered :)

What product would be best to remove the sap as easily as possible?

It's parked 5 minutes from my flat, so the priority really is to just get the windscreen clean so I can drive down the road at some point and park it outside my flat where there are no trees, and then I can clean it properly.

Autoglym (i know its a dirty word round these parts!) tar remover always works well for me, just don't leave it on any painted surface for too long.....

A good Tar & Glue remover should do the trick, sometimes APC will also work. Another option can be using clay bar's.

APC (All purpose cleaner) should work. I use Meguirs stuff, but hear very good things about Tesco Daisy, its cheap too, normal household stuff.

Clay bar should also work, but if theres a lot, you may use a lot of clay.

Tar and Glue will also work, as would washing up liquid. Although it will strip any protection (polish / wax) the car has. And never used it myself.

T-Cut :( Although from what I have heard on here you shouldn't use it too often, but on glass it will be fine; took off the sap I got from the Lime trees back at my parents and that stuffs a bitch.

Steve I often park my car under lime trees and these are renowned for producing a rather sticky residue (much like your Elly Spunk). I find hot water and car shampoo does the trick really well. :(

I would do that first before going to town with the APC/T-Cut stuff. Then when you get it back outside the flat you can target any specific areas with the big boy cleaning products.

OK. Looks like I'll be up the road with a bucket of hot soapy water then.

Once it's back down here I'll clean it properly as I was intending to anyway. It's been very neglected. I need to finally put these cleaning products to good use that have been in the cupboard for about 2 years.

When i got my 205 it was parked under a tree for about 5 months and it was caked in the stuff. I got it home and used some TFR (very lightly diluted) and it removed it a treat. then gave it a going over with some T-Cut and some AutoGlym and it was as good as.........well as good as it's going to be.

T-Cut :) Although from what I have heard on here you shouldn't use it too often, but on glass it will be fine;

I wouldn't use normal T Cut on glass, especically a windscreen as it is abrasive, though I know they do a special glass polish for taking out minor scratches.

I would also use hot water and a car shampoo. It melts off with the hot water. I have done the green mossy roof of a white fiesta too before with Fairy liquid but TCut afterwards. As has been said, this will remove all previous protection that is on the car.

A layer of wax and something like Autoglym Extra gloss will help stop the sap sticking and making even the most pornographic displays of tree jizz simply wash off like it was on a plastic sheet!!
