Engine Swap - What Else To Change While I Have Good Access?

Recommended Posts

DooBeDooBeDo

I've just got a replacement engine for my '89 1.9 (Thanks to soap.mactavish :)). Before it goes in I will fit a new cam belt and water pump, I'm also going to take the opportunity to fit a set silicone hoses from BakerBM and a new set of standard engine mounts.

Is there anything else I need to have ready for the swap, or ought to do while I have the chance?

Cambelt tensioner, camshaft oil seal, check crankshaft oil seal as well.

I should add I'm not too worried about the engine internals or the head - they were reconditioned 19k ago.

Clutch, you could list an endless amount of things to be honest I guess its down to budget and what history you have.

I'll use the clutch from the old engine - it's done about 16k.

It's more about the small things I might not think of until the day of the swap. Although, saying that, budget isn't too much of an issue if it's something I'll kick myself over for not having done when I had the chance. So please keep the ideas coming for what's easiest to change with the engine and box out.

The clutch cable, front brake pipes and gear linkages are all recently done too.

I always try and change the crankshaft oil seal at the clutch end if nothing else. Its a cheap simple job that leads into a big job taking the gearbox out etc and I have kicked myself before when I have not bothered and its leaked :)
