Oil And Pressure Coming Out Of The Cam Cover Breather Pipe.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

been having issues with oil being pumped out of the breather system, initially back into the induction tract, but since I fitted one, filling up an oil catch tank.

First, I thought it was compression going down into the crankcase and pushing the oil up the oil filler pipe, but now I think the oil is coming from the cam cover. I removed the breather pipe with the engine idling and oil was spitting out of the hole, more so with increasing revs.

So, what would cause excess pressure in the camshaft area?

If it was worn piston rings, wouldn't it burn it too?

There is no smoke out of the exhaust when I rev it.

Just found another thread concerning this, and in that thread someone suggests the pipe from the cam cover should go to the block, but mine goes to a joint just below the filler tower.

The smaller outlet on the block goes to a joint on the filler tower just below the top.

Does this sound right?

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Antony

For the record, I got this sorted.

The oil filler/breather pipe was kinked and when the engine was spinning fast, it couldn't drain the oil from the cam cover back into the sump fast enough and spilled out through the filler top.

I should have guessed after finding it took an age to drain a litre of oil into it.

Anyway, new filler pipe from BakerBM and the car doesn't use any oil at all. Sorted.
